We went to the silk village and went to a silk factory where silk is made. We saw two silk machines. They turn pattern cards into beautiful silk. Even the ones that were turned off had pretty patterns of silk. We saw a lady working a machine by hand operating it by pushing a big long piece of metal and pulling a green and white striped string. Than we got to get our picture taken with our friend who used to live in State Collage, Pennsylvania and was an art teacher at Easterly and Coral Street schools. I got a shuttle cock from the lady that owns the factory. We saw silk worms that make the fiber they use to make the silk. Then we went shopping and I bought a picture made of silk threads. The picture was of two boats on Ha Long Bay with a cave and beautiful jagged cliffs. It was soft like the newest teddy bear. Maya got the same thing but a different picture and smaller. Serena got a little red and salmon colored fish purse. - by Alison

These are the cards that create the patterns.

Silk Worms

Today we went to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum. They also call him uncle Ho. Uncle Ho was the leader of Vietnam. He died in 1969. Uncle Ho freed Vietnam from the French so France was no longer the boss of Vietnam. He was like when George Washington helped free the United States from the English. There were guards everywhere at the mausoleum. You had to be very quiet. There was even a glass box with Ho Chi Minh in it, but I am not sure if it was really him or not.
We also saw his stilt house, that was modeled after a traditional Vietnamese house. But we could only walk on the outside halls, we could not go inside. He wanted to live there instead of a the big fancy palace. Can you believe that? Then we walked around a pond. Every one wanted to take our picture again. - by Maya
Ho Chi Minh's body is kept inside this big building.

I love the photos of the silk factory. What an experience, I would love to see that someday. The buildings are so beautiful, too.

ReplyDeleteLast night I went to Mirrabelle's and played with Maddie, Kellen, Emma, Chloe, Isabella, and the boys - Al and Jamie. My parents were at the grown-up party. We wished you all were here.
I dressed like the Grinch in a fuzzy green sweater.
We got to make a craft but I can't tell you what it is because it's a present for my parents.
I have a dance recital today at Club Tico.
Thinking of you.
We like your stories and pictures. I liked seeing you walking on the tightrope and in the pretty dresses.
6 days 'til Christmas! And no more school.
Yea!
Have fun.
