Maya's trip to Sapa

"OK here we go"! On New Year's Eve at 7:00 we went on an overnight train.

When I woke up it was New Year's Day. Than we went on a really bumpy bumpy bumpy bumpy bus and we were in the back seat. The bus took us up to the Hotel. Then we checked in. Then we went to the lobby and met our tour guide named Ji.

We walked along a road that had quite a few cars. That's how we got to the village. We made a stop to get our tickets but we weren't at the village yet. Than we walked some more down a path of steep steps and then we got there. Oh did I mention when we got to Sapa it was really foggy.

It was muddy and dirty and people lived in tiny houses there. Many people who lived there sold things at their houses. Let me tell you what things they did sell. They sold instruments, dresses, skirts, bags, and lots of things made out of cloth. In this village they made dye called indigo by boiling plants.

A family of 15 people let us look at their house. It was not big. The kids at the house slept on the ground - the pavement ground. Can you believe that?! They didn't have clean or nice clothes. They were very poor. I felt very sad for them.

  4. Hi Maya,
Wow. It's so sad when some people have so little. I've learned so much from reading your posts.
